From the Gospel according to Matthew

At that time: As Jesus passed on from Capernaum, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David.’ When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ They said to him, ‘Yes, Lord.’ Then he touched their eyes, saying, ‘According to your faith be it done to you.’ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, ‘See that no one knows about it.’ But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

This healing account appears only in Matthew's Gospel and occurs immediately after Jesus raised Jairus' daughter (Matthew 9:18-26). The passage is situated within a sequence of miracle stories that demonstrate Jesus' authority over various aspects of human suffering.

The passage is particularly noteworthy for its use of the title "Son of David," a messianic designation that Matthew's Gospel especially emphasizes. Another distinctive aspect is the private setting of the healing, which takes place inside a house, contrasting with many of Jesus' public miraculous acts. While not unique to this account, Jesus' command for silence following the miracle is also significant, adding to the distinctive characteristics of this narrative.
